This 4 hour training seminar is designed to cover the foundations of water protection legislation that have been enacted to initiate pro-active approaches to responsible waste disposal and clean water preservation.

Topics Covered:

Clean Water Act (CWA):

  • Publically Owned Treatment Works (POTW) Permits-Pretreatment Standards
  • National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permits-Effluent Guidelines
  • Spill Prevention Control & Countermeasures (SPCC)-Storage of “Oils”
  • Spill Reporting-CERCLA, EPCRA, SARA, NRC
  • Wetlands and Dredge/Fill Operations-404 Permits

Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (OPA):

  • Oil Spill Response Plan-Covers transportation facilities, pipelines, on-shore transportation, off shore petroleum development and on shore non transport facilities. Generally covering transport of over 1 million gallons.

Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA):


  • Set primary, secondary and maximum contaminant levels for 83 contaminants
  • Regulated underground well control/classification
  • Regulated wellhead protection
